    Hello Tumblr,
I’ve gotten a few asks/questions about where people can buy prints of my work. So I decided to finally create a Society6 account.

Check it out, show some love, and even maybe buy some prints or an iPhoon cover~?

Look tumblr friends, I was commissioned to create these illustrations for a company that consults startups. I had lots of fun creating these! I’ve been starting to explore more aspects of my process/workflow, and am trying to get more traditional drawing into my finished pieces.

Zaki, the only child of ambitious Nigerian immigrants, is constantly learning things the hard way. When her mysterious grandmother moves in, things take a turn for the magical. But even her new found power doesn’t help Zaki deal with the reality of trauma, tradition, and loss.

My sister has a staged reading coming up. She asked me to create an illustration for it, and I was glad to of course~! It’s a really beautiful & inspiring story. Not to mention, it compliments my artistic sensibilities pretty well.
Here is a fb event link for anyone interested in going; https://www.facebook.com/events/127073087470356/?fref=tsI learned alot from this piece, and had a ton of help from my dear friend Orissa. I can definitely noodle and render this piece for a few more hours. But I probably won’t go back into it for a bit of time.  (Sometimes you gotta scale things down and let them breatheee~)

obviouslyafrican asked: Heyyyy fellow Nigerian and Igbo brothaa!!! You inspire meee. I recently followed you and went through your blog. Love your art! Keep following those dreams!! How do your parents feel about your dreams? Do they support you?? -Crystal

    Answer:

Hi hi! Thanks so much for the message :) It really means alot to me! I really enjoy your blog as well.

Family and family support is a touchy and difficult subject to explain, because of you know intersectionality (of my dreams as an artist, which is so dependent on my dreams outside of my ~career~).

I would say my parents support my dreams in their own way (at least the ones related to my career). They may not always understand, and I may not feel like they supporting me in the healthiest way but they try.

It definitely took alot of convincing when it was time to apply to colleges (and I knew I was going to Rhode Island School of Design, or at least an art school). And it definitely helped that I am the youngest of five; so my oldest siblings had the burden blessing of studying medicine, political science, etc.

The concept of an illustrator is so foreign and unknown to them, so this is all expected. But my being is so foreign and unknown to them as well— I am pretty much an alien from another dimension, so bridging the gap and understanding each other can be pretty difficult.

In short, the intention is definitely there; they support me in their own way (even if it doesn’t feel like their biggest priority or the best forms of support).

Did you know I have the best friends in the world?
Recently I’ve gotten ~therapeutic letters~, pieces of artwork, valentines day mailers, care packages full of rare candy, AND TODAY OUT OF NOWHERE I GOT THESE DELICIOUS COOKIES FROM THEMOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD—JERRELLE GUY

I am.
I.
I have no words.

She is also ridiculous.
She is blasphemous for sending notes like this.
There can be miracles, if you believe.
