A repost of my last blog entry~!
My teacher told me to noodle and render even more! Very few instructors allow me to do that so I was pleasantly happy to get into the details/textures of thangs.
This character is called Yeyo, (inspired by the Erykah Badu song/mother in Swahili). She is one of the main characters, or perhaps I should say themes/concepts, in the myth I’ve been exploring/constructing for my DP (teehee).
YeYo
When you wake up in the morning
And you see the morning sun
And if you need to know the world is on your side
Who do you run to?
Who can you turn to?
Then the evening comes to greet you
You need, you need someone to hold you close
And then you feel the need to rest your aching mind
Who can you run to?
Who can you turn to?
Well see the suns in the east and the moon reflects
Like the knowledge and wisdom I manifest
If you wanna go to heaven lay upon my breast
I’m Ye Ye
Your Ye Ye
I listen to too much Erykah Badu *____*
another piece from character creation~
that week we had to be colonizers/cultural appropriators/do what i’m always close to doing #oops :P Essentially we had to create a protagonist + antagonist and use inspiration from *non-western cultures*
So I just delved into more West African art for inspiration~
This character is also totally inspired by Samantha of Alex and Samantha (the role playing game that my sister (ivygrown.tumblr.com) and I played from the ages ?-tweenage something….although we’re technically still playing, or shall I say living those roles, to this day.
Back then it was basically a mixture of power rangers, sailor moon, 90210, and california dreams. We also had choreography/music sessions thrown in there. (We are obviously genius children)
Also how many colored grrlz can I create in this lifetime?
Hm, I guess we’ll have to see.
It’s always funny to see what’s stirring in my brain when I make the decision to create a male character.
Maybe I’m just really into furries?
Or maybe this is just Miyazaki meets Khimari from Final Fantasy meets. . .?
Scoop out that third eye yall.
Release the blocked chakraz.

Ahhh, thankyou so much!! The support really means alot to me and is really inspiring~
Be less anonymous and keep in touch, yeah? :]
The other day I performed in the Brown/RISD Drag show, which was actually just my excuse to do whatever I wanted on stage. The stage is really just one big therapy session, and I wanted to do more than koochie krumping for the sake of koochie krumping . So I essentially created a new works/world traditions solo piece (Lift Off by Bey, Jay, and Kanye + Basement Jaxx’s Scars + IWH) #yoloshow2012.
The performance ended with this video projection to I Was Here, followed by me singing (barely… since singing after dancing/fooning/authentic improving is NO joke @__@) the last chorus and adlibs.
It all meant alot to me, and I had ALL OF THE FEELINGS during/after the performance #graduation #legacies #difficulttransitions #deathanddying #cycles #lovelost #anditsabeautifulsong

I’m not a fan of the composition so it’ll probably stay in this sketch stage. But this is a sketch of the ~mother goddess~ (I’ve been calling her Yeyo/Yeye/Yaku from listening to tooooo much of Erykah Badu’s Next Lifetime—-the live extended 12 minute version and Zap Mama ). She leaves her home and the spirit children she gave birth to, to travel the world and replenish ~the famished roads~ and transforms them back to rivers
