I’m all about intersectionality*
*that is, cross cultural dialogues and narratives.
that is, doing african dance/mande to the soundtrack of final fantasy xii.
The Phon Coast theme goes hard yo.
I could say so much about these photos (but you can find more info about them on my website). All I can really say is that~
Sometimes I dance.
Sometimes I perform.
Sometimes I enter a trance state to unravel my mythopoeic self at the crossroads.
Its like she said, you’re always waiting to meet yourself in the white hot room, aint that the truth?

Video used for projection/performance. Explores the themes of legacies and life cycles through tableaus and immobility vs mobility vs disabilities vs Beyonce abilities
I always forget to share non-illustration work on this blog so I’ll start now.
This is a project I started in a RISD class, “Video & The Body”. Originally I just wanted to play with the idea of tableaus and embodying different sounds (using a song called “Yume no kakera [Fragments of a Dream] by Nobuchika Eri”).
But I eventually reworked it a bunch of times, changed the music (from a jpop song to 1+1 to I Was Here), and used it for a “drag” performance as a video projection. I use the term drag loosely, because I have a history of just doing…strange performance things…that brush upon gender identity through embodied movements. For instance, emerging from a handmade cocoon to Bjork’s Venus as a Boy.
Anyway this video specifically was used to explore the idea of legacies, since it was my last year at RISD—a really magical time to say the least.

The other day I performed in the Brown/RISD Drag show, which was actually just my excuse to do whatever I wanted on stage. The stage is really just one big therapy session, and I wanted to do more than koochie krumping for the sake of koochie krumping . So I essentially created a new works/world traditions solo piece (Lift Off by Bey, Jay, and Kanye + Basement Jaxx’s Scars + IWH) #yoloshow2012.
The performance ended with this video projection to I Was Here, followed by me singing (barely… since singing after dancing/fooning/authentic improving is NO joke @__@) the last chorus and adlibs.
It all meant alot to me, and I had ALL OF THE FEELINGS during/after the performance #graduation #legacies #difficulttransitions #deathanddying #cycles #lovelost #anditsabeautifulsongÂ

…during wintersession I produced 1% of the work I wanted to make.
But uh, here’s my final from my video & the body course.
it’s super self indulgent, and there’s still alot of kinks I have to work out. So I may revisit or rework the whole ~video tableau~mobility~immobility thing going on…perhaps even some overlays of hand drawn animation?
